Bonus Round

Saturday, June 20 turned out to be a special day for UBCF. James Wong hosted the fellowship with more food than we could possibly handle. Allan & Rebecca Hla-Oung brought Dr. Thein Htay to UBCF for a bonus round of Bible study before he heads to the East Coast. The fellowship hall was jam packed with eager listeners. Shina Hui asked some tough questions. As a result, the audience learned more from the lecturer. Earlier in the morning there was also another gathering at Lyndon and Jacyntha's residence in San Francisco to receive Dr. Thein Htay's lecture especially prepared for Juniors. In addition to the host and hostess, the attendees include Nathan Choo, Kevin Chow, Michelle Chan, Derrick Chan, Peter Lau, Kasandra Lau, Natasha Lau, Brunna Yin, Allan Hla-Oung, Rebecca Hla-Oung, Linda and Rose.

Finish Line

The marathoners of "New Life" spiritual series crossed the finish line at Kevin and Nicole Law's residence in Union City on Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13. Thank you, Kevin and Nicole for hosting UBCF program. Lunches and dinners were wonderful. UBCF wishes to extend its appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Law (Delilah, Nicole and Tin Win’s parents) and George and Mercy Tay for providing additional meals for the body. And, of course, we owe it to Dr. Thein Htay for the spiritual food.

Dr. Thein Htay's sharing

Dr. Thein Htay kicked off a "New Life" spiritual marathon in May. Followers gathered at Htee Hmum and Grace's residence in American Canyon, Allan and Rebecca's residence in Concord, George and Mercy Tay's residence in Concord, Pho Nee and Florence's residence in Concord, James Lee's residence in Milpitas, Kevin and Nicole Law's residence in Union City, Prince of Peace Church in Fremont, Burmese Christian Community Church of Silicon Valley in San Jose, and Burmese Christian Family Fellowship of Bay Area (at Hope Lutheran Church) in Daly City to receive Dr.’s messages. The marathon picked up pace last week at John Hla-Oung and Sarah Hla-Oung's residence in South San Francisco and Kyaw Win and Monita's residence in Daly City. Dr. Lily Chan was among those who provided accomodation during Saya's stay here in the Bay Area. Delilah Hui wanted to schedule a session at her residence in American Canyon but was unable so far to secure a date from Saya's hectic calendar. I preserved Saya's lectures for those who missed one or more of them and for those who would like to revisit them. Heavenly credits go to Victor Wong for sharing the video. I posted Victor's video below.

Speakers' messages

Every now and then the Lord brings us visiting speakers from Burma.

On Saturday, May 16 Ko Pho Nee and Ma Florence hosted a Bible Discussion class at their home and the featured speaker was Dr. Thein Htay. John Hla-Oung was very kind to give me and my wife Elaine a ride to Concord. The other passengers in the mini-van were AhJi (Mrs. Hla-Oung), U Tin Shwe, Daw Aye Kyi Shein and Dr. Lily Chan.

Dr. Thein Htay is a Sino-Burmese and a graduate of Rangoon Medical College. Dr. Thein Htay practiced medicine for about 4-5 years. Once he became a believer, he left medicine and devoted full time to evangelistic work. Although he came from an affluent family, he went to all the small & large villages in the remote areas of Burma and lived like the villagers there - just so that he can teach them the truth and the good news of Jesus Christ. He's been doing this for about 30 years. He is not affiliated with any denomination nor Church. He founded the "Discipleship Training" courses/seminars in Burma, and there have been quite a few of his graduates who are preaching and teaching all over the world.

Judging by the attendees it is safe to say that people are hungry for spiritual nourishment. I was totally absorbed in Dr. Thein Htay's lecture. I feel like I have read the book of Exodus twice in one evening. What else can I tell you? I truly wish you were there.
